The early 2000s isn’t an era generally recognised for its fashion contributions. More often than not, we remember this time in history with a little bit of a cringe and a little more of a “What were we thinking?” Regardless, it was a simpler time in many ways before social media permeated every aspect of our lives (Myspace was about as techy as our interactions got) and when bloggers were barely a twinkle in the internet’s eye. That yearning for a less complicated, less connected era may be why nostalgia for the early aughts has slowly but surely crept back into the collective consciousness and into our wardrobes. Ahead, check out 10 Spring 2018 trends that prove the revival of 2000s fashion is reaching fever pitch.
Handkerchief Hems
Skirts at the turn of the century were almost required to have uneven hemlines and the silhouette is back with a vengeance. A classic polka dot print take on the trend was always a winner back then so I’m sure it will be winner this time around.
Ruching
Gather together this season (see what i did there). Ruched pieces were all the rage in the early 2000’s and are currently back for another round.
Spaghetti Straps
Any 2000s girl worth her salt had a plethora of skinny-strapped tanks and camis and the old-school staple is experiencing a renaissance. You can rock yours in every iteration, from simple solid to floral print. This style would look great paired with your boyfriend jeans
Logos
A decade and a half ago, the It bag was, well, everything. If you didn’t advertise to the world who you were wearing, did it even really happen? For Spring 2018, they’re bringing them to the forefront once again. If that’s out of your budget, try a more wallet-friendly — but equally retro — version.
Dresses Over Pants
Everyone from Britney Spears to Jessica Alba worked this styling trick in the 2000s, usually with boot-cut jeans. Try the trend with a flowy midi dress that will hit at the right spot.
