There has been a rumour on the grapevine that skinny jeans are finally set to be dethroned as the go to for fashionistas out there. Skinny jeans are set to be brushed aside, thanks to a rise in popularity towards flared cut jeans, mom fit jeans and vintage levi style trends. If pinterest data analytics are anything to go by then the wide leg cut trouser or jean is set to reign supreme as we move in the Spring/Summer season, and we are quite excited about this shift if we’re honest. Skinny jeans seems to have had a grip on us for a while now so a fresh new trend is welcomed.
The data from Pinterest is probably backed up by the fact that the Autumn 2017 catwalks were inundated with this sort of look. Chloe rehashed workwear, offering up a selection of relaxed fit trousers teamed with everything from a soft fabric patterned sweater to a trench coat coat. Christian Siriano’s more tailored take involved pink free-flowing pants with their high waist on full display thanks to a tucked-in rust-colored turtleneck. Stella McCartney’s wide-leg denim jeans were balanced out by a cropped denim jacket in the same sort of shades.
Street style stars took to the idea pretty quickly, I am assuming they were more than ready for a change too and they showed it with some of the looks that were on show. From baggy trousers that obscure footwear to a workwear casual look complete with white shirt and even hot pink cropped versions with bell sleeve cuffs.
A couple of showgoers used their belt bags as actual belts, cinching their wide-leg pants to create a defined waist. Layering a cropped puffer over top can also help keep proportions in check. When it comes to shoes, base your choice on length, not width. Floor-scraping bottoms call for a little pick-me-up, aka high heels, while cropped fare can stand up to heels or flats.
